At Imagine Borneo Media, we are passionate about bringing the beauty and importance of Malaysia’s and Borneo’s wildlife to the world. Based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia, our company excels in natural history production, location management for Borneo and Malaysia, and conservation-focused filmmaking. We understand the unique challenges and rewards of working in this diverse and ecologically rich region. Our team is dedicated to helping with and producing high-quality content that not only entertains but also educates and inspires viewers to appreciate and protect the natural world.
Our expertise extends beyond filming; we offer comprehensive location management and fixing services, ensuring that every production runs smoothly and efficiently. We work closely with local government, communities, NGOs, and international production teams to help create the content they want from Borneo’s breathtaking landscapes, incredible people and unique wildlife. By combining our deep knowledge of the region and navigating the government processes with our technical skills and passion for storytelling, Imagine Borneo aims to help bring this incredible place to people world wide.
Meet Oliver
Oliver Deppert is a seasoned wildlife producer and director with 14 years of experience in the industry. His journey began as a divemaster in Thailand, which led him to Hainan, China, where he worked as a scuba instructor and created films of guests diving. This experience connected him with a professional underwater cameraman who brought him to Sabah, Malaysia Borneo. There, Oliver collaborated with a professional production company, working on numerous international productions and producing his own films and short series for platforms such as Love Nature, Smithsonian, and YouTube.
In 2016, Oliver transitioned to freelancing, where he contributed to films for NGOs and corporations and assisted on international productions. His expertise led him to work on series for prestigious networks like BBC, Nat Geo, Sky TV, Arte, CBC, and Disney+. Most recently, he served as a field director and assistant producer on the Netflix series “Our Oceans,” set to release in 2024. In this role, he worked as a rebreather diver, dive supervisor, directed sequences, developed stories, and participated in the editing process. At Imagine Borneo, Oliver manages the company, works as a cameraman, directs independent documentaries, and continues his involvement in international productions for broadcast.
